Art event posters and photos: preparing images for a clear listing

Use a poster you have permission to publish, keep essential details in the listing text and check its framing in Preview. London Art Alert recommends 1600 x 2000 pixels for the poster and limits each uploaded image to 5MB.

Make the image support the event information

Choose an image that accurately represents the event. A poster, artwork or installation photograph can help someone decide to read more, but it should not imply a different show or location. Obtain the permissions you need for artwork, photographs and identifiable people, and include an agreed credit in the listing where relevant.

Repeat the title, public dates, hours and booking information in text. A visitor should not need to enlarge a poster to find the address, and text remains useful when an image cannot load. Keep a small-screen version readable without depending on every line of the poster.

Prepare the file before uploading

The recommended poster resolution is 1600 x 2000 pixels; that is a recommended shape, not a minimum-resolution rule. The file must be 5MB or smaller. The form processes the main poster into JPEG for storage. Keep your own original separately and choose an export that stays clear without unnecessarily enlarging the file.

You can add up to four additional photos, each no larger than 5MB, in JPG/JPEG, PNG, WEBP or GIF format. Use them for different views or context rather than repeating the main poster. Do not treat extra photos as additional event listings.

Choose Crop or Adjust for a reason

The default cover framing fills the poster field and can trim the edges. Crop Image lets you choose the framing by moving and scaling the photograph. Adjust Image fits the whole image within the field, which can leave bars where the proportions differ. Use the option that preserves the information and composition you want visitors to see.

Review small text, dates and logos after making the change. Fitting an image does not improve a low-quality source, and cropping does not make missing information appear. If the source is wrong or unreadable, Upload New is a better step than repeated adjustments.

Check the full visitor preview

Use Preview before Submit to see the event reader, not only the file chooser's thumbnail. Confirm the main image, extra photos, descriptions and links together. Stored crop or fit choices are intended to carry through to the event details; compact listing thumbnails can still use a different display shape.

After an approved edit, revisit the public event link. Social networks may retain an earlier shared image in their own cache, even when the event page has updated. Keep all essential event facts in the text and share the direct listing link rather than relying on a poster alone.
